How To Elope In Tampa
Planning your Tampa elopement is super simple and Florida is one of the easiest states to get legally married in! Here’s what you need to do to elope in Tampa:
Step 1: Get Your Marriage License
To elope in Tampa, you’ll need a valid Florida marriage license. Here’s how to get one:
- Apply at any Florida Clerk of Court, but Hillsborough County Clerk of Court is the closest to the park. You can apply online or in person (varies by Clerk of Court).
- For Florida residents, there’s a 3-day waiting period (from the time you go to the Clerk of Court) unless you take a state-approved premarital course.
- For non-Florida residents, there’s no waiting period. You can get married the same day you apply for your license.
- Both people must be present with a valid ID, social security numbers, and any past marriage dates (if applicable).
- Pay the marriage license fee (around $80).
Once you have your marriage license in hand, it is good for 60 days and valid anywhere in the state.
Step 2: Choose Who Will Officiate
In Florida, your marriage can be officiated by any ordained clergy, judges, or public notaries. If you want to elope anywhere in Tampa (city streets included), you’ll need to book an officiant to make it legal. Alternatively, you can find an elopement photographer that is either ordained or a Florida notary to make the process super easy.

Best Time to Elope In Tampa
Tampa has pretty mild weather all year long, but not all seasons are created equal when it comes to comfort, crowds, and weather. As a Tampa Elopement Photographer, I highly recommend winter or spring, but here’s a complete breakdown by season:
Tampa Elopement Weather by Season
- Spring: Warm but can be busy. Spring break crowds and weekend traffic mean you’ll want to elope early and/or on a weekday morning.
- Summer: It’s HOT (think mid-90s) and daily storms are likely. I never recommend summer elopements unless you’re planning a water activity.
- Fall: Still warm (80s), fewer crowds, and the tail-end of hurricane season.
- Winter: The absolute best. Cool mornings and no bugs. The best season to elope in Tampa; however, it is snow bird season so it still might be busy.
Avoid Hurricane Season
Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity mid-August to mid-October. I highly recommend that couples avoid this time all together to avoid any travel or planning complications from a storm like the two back to back hurricanes that disrupted T+M’s elopement day. However if you’re still wanting to elope in Tampa during this time, invest in travel insurance and have a flexible plan in place.
Avoiding Bugs + Crowds
When it comes to avoiding crowds, opt for an elopement on a weekday, sunrise, during an off-season (like after spring break or before Thanksgiving), or non-holiday weekend. Always double check that there are no large events happening on your elopement date!
Mosquitos and no-see-ums are brutal in summer. If you don’t want to worry about bugs, opt for a winter elopement. Any other time of the year, bring bug spray with you!

Tampa has no shortage of pretty spots, but these are some of the best (and my absolute favorite) locations for a Tampa elopement. Whether you’re going for modern city vibes, historic charm, or quirky and intimate, these spots deliver on aesthetics and experience.
Le Meridien Steps – Downtown Tampa
Once a historic federal courthouse, now a boutique hotel, Le Meridien Tampa has dramatic white marble steps and tall columns that scream timeless elegance. Perfect for couples who want those iconic courthouse vibes with a modern twist. Heads up – this location does require a reservation and photography permit to elope here!
Hillsborough County Courthouse – Downtown Tampa
Yes, it’s an actual courthouse, but don’t sleep on the charm! The exterior is clean and classic, and it’s a great option if you’re going for a quick legal ceremony. The courthouse offers a private ceremony spot within the building for an additional fee. There’s a few chairs to invite guests. Pair it with downtown exploration or drinks nearby to make it a full experience.
Rooftop 220 – Tampa Heights
This venue gives you gorgeous views of the Hillsborough River and Tampa’s skyline. It’s modern, minimal, and totally customizable if you want a little more structure to your elopement or intimate wedding. Plus, it’s connected to Armature Works, which means you’re steps away from cocktails and good eats post-ceremony. Renting this venue gives you photography permission at Armature Works!
Oxford Exchange – Downtown Tampa
If you’re dreaming of something sophisticated, charming, and a little upscale, Oxford Exchange is that girl. With its black-and-white tile floors, glass conservatory, and moody bookshop vibes, this spot is perfect for couples who want a timeless, editorial-style Tampa elopement. Bonus? The food and coffee are amazing so you can make a full date out of your elopement day. Heads up – there is a permit required to photograph at this location!
Tampa Murals – Tampa Heights/Downtown Tampa/Seminole Heights
For couples who want something bold and colorful, Tampa’s mural scene is incredible. Seminole Heights and Downtown are packed with street art that adds personality and edge to your photos. It’s a laid-back, fun way to elope in Tampa without needing a full setup.
Wild Roots Plant Shop – St. Petersburg
This is for the plant lovers! Wild Roots has cozy, green vibes and lots of charm for a super intimate indoor elopement. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by tropical leaves and sunlight pouring in. A reservation is required to have your ceremony at this location.
Fancy Free Nursery – Tampa Heights
Fancy Free Nursery is a hidden gem that makes you feel like you’re in a secret garden tucked inside the city. It’s one of the best intimate wedding spots in Tampa for couples who want something fresh and non-traditional. A reservation is required to have your ceremony at this location.
