There’s something utterly magical about Iceland, isn’t there? It’s a land where the raw beauty of nature feels untouched and pure, where towering waterfalls and rugged cliffs seem like they belong in a dream. That’s exactly why Sam and Garrett chose the southern rim of Iceland for their couple session—and let me tell you, it was a morning we’ll never forget.
We started early—really early. One of the best things about shooting in Iceland is that if you’re willing to rise before the world wakes up, you can have even the most iconic spots all to yourself. That’s exactly what we did. By the time we reached the waterfall, it was just us and the cascading water.
The atmosphere was unreal. There’s something about hearing the roar of a waterfall while surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature that makes you feel alive.
For this shoot, I worked alongside my photography friend, Kelsey Converse, so we can learn the different ways we approached sessions. Kelsey aims for more natural capture – letting the couples explore, take in the scenery, and capture the real moments. Whereas, I approach sessions from a guidance standpoint and let the landscape compliment the photos. It’s so important to me that sessions are fun, not just a photoshoot. That’s why I gave Sam and Garrett a little time to explore, but also stepped in with direction when it was time to capture their connection through prompts. But watching Kelsey shoot made me have a new appreciation for letting couples be themselves in this epic landscape.
If you’re dreaming of your own Iceland couple session, let this be your sign to take the leap! Whether it’s waterfalls, black sand beaches, or glaciers, Iceland has a way of making every moment feel extraordinary.
And here’s the thing: You don’t have to worry about a single detail. I’ll guide you through everything—from choosing the perfect spot to planning your day around Iceland’s unpredictable weather. Whether you want candid, quiet moments or epic, windswept portraits, I’ve got you.
